"This
book will jar you,

Enlightenment is not
the exclusive property of the East. When we discover the source
of our mind every inch of ground is the same as the sacred Himalayas.
Too often in our quest for Truth we fail to separate
cultural ties from the vital teachings. It is easy to become poor
imitations of very real masters. If men and women of The West are
ever to pass through The Gateless Gate, they will need masters spiritually
conceived in their own culture who can speak boldly from direct
perception.
In Spiritual Enlightenment: The Damnedest Thing,
Jed McKenna reminds us that the bottom line of enlightenment is
the same for all of us while the path to that discovery is different
for each person. Jed is not your poster variety spiritual teacher
but his ability to dispense Dharma while playing a Lara Croft video
game, and his colloquial approach to teaching may be just what American
readers need to inspire them to take the greatest journey of all,
the path to No-Self.
In fact, I recommend Spiritual Enlightenment
as good medicine for any Western Spiritual teacher who finds it
difficult to separate his attainment from the cultural heritage
of a particular Asian Master. Too often, we try to drink the glass
instead of swallow the water. This book will jar you, and that is
good.
